Sonar tracking (Contactless)#

1. Is Sonar tracking safe for my health?#

Yes, absolutely. Ultrasonic waves are completely safe when emitted at normal volumes. Sleep as Android uses low-volume ultrasound near 20 kHz at around 40 dB, which is softer than a normal conversational voice. It does not produce ultrasound powerful enough to cause hearing damage or any known health issues.

2. Is Sonar safe for pets (cats, dogs, or other animals)?#

Yes. The signal sounds like a soft, constant background hum (similar to a refrigerator buzz) to pets that can hear higher frequencies. It is not harmful or stressful for animals. If your pet seems particularly sensitive, you can try switching the Sonar frequency under Settings ➔ Sleep tracking ➔ Sensor ➔ Sonar settings.

3. Can Sonar damage my phone’s speaker or microphone?#

No. Sonar uses standard audio stream frequencies (18 kHz-22 kHz) that are at the upper limit of human hearing. This places no extra stress on your hardware compared to playing normal music or using voice calls.

4. I can hear the Sonar (Chirping or Clicking)#

Sonar tracking uses ultrasonic frequencies that should be above the range of human hearing. If you can hear a chirping, clicking, or high-pitched hum, it’s usually due to hardware or processing limitations.

  • Audio Processing: Turn off all system-level audio enhancements (Equalizers, Dolby Atmos) under your phone’s Sound or Accessibility settings.
  • Physical Resonance: Ensure the phone is on a soft surface and not vibrating against hard objects.
  • Frequency Settings: Try changing the sonar frequency or switching the Sonar type in Settings ➔ Sleep tracking ➔ Sensor ➔ Sonar settings.

5. Why is my Sonar graph flat or unresponsive during the test?#

  • Connected Headphones: Sonar does not work while wired or Bluetooth headphones are connected.
  • 👉 Fix: Ensure no headphones are connected. Try switching the Sonar frequency in the test settings or boost the Sensitivity slider until the green wave graph starts reacting.
