Heart Rate (HR) & HRV issues#

1. Why is Heart Rate not showing up on my sleep graph?#

If your graph does not show the red HR line, check the following:

  1. Wearable Configuration: Verify that Use wearable is set to match your specific watch model in Settings ➔ Sleep tracking ➔ Wearables.
  2. Sensor Lock: Check if another health app on your phone or watch is maintaining an exclusive lock on the heart rate sensor, preventing Sleep as Android from accessing it.
  3. System Settings: If using Wear OS or a Galaxy Watch, ensure continuous heart rate measurement is enabled in your watch’s system settings.

2. What is Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and why is higher usually better?#

HRV measures the subtle time differences (in milliseconds) between consecutive heartbeats. A higher HRV indicates that your autonomic nervous system is responsive, balanced, and recovered. A sudden drop in your overnight HRV baseline can be an early signal of physical exhaustion, onset of illness, or high stress levels.

3. Does heart rate tracking drain my battery?#

Continuous Bluetooth streaming of heart rate data consumes slightly more battery than standard motion tracking. If preserving battery is your priority, you can disable real-time HR streaming and instead let the app sync your heart rate data after you wake up via Health Connect or Samsung Health.
