Jet lag prevention#

Traveling across time zones can throw off your natural body clock, leaving you tired, sluggish, and unfocused when you arrive at your destination. Rather than waiting until you land to suffer through the adjustment period, Sleep as Android lets you tackle jet lag before your trip even begins.

By using scientifically backed light therapy during your regular sleep cycles, the app gradually pre-adjusts your body’s internal clock to your destination’s time zone. This chapter explains how the light therapy works, how to set it up, and how to get your circadian rhythm flight-ready.

How It Works#

Traveling across time zones disrupts your internal body clock (circadian rhythm). Sleep as Android uses light therapy based on a 2016 study from the Stanford University School of Medicine.

While you sleep, the app emits subtle micro-flashes of light:

  • Duration: 2-millisecond flashes
  • Interval: Every 15 seconds

These brief pulses pass through your closed eyelids to shift your melatonin cycle gradually without waking you up or disturbing your sleep.

How to Set It Up#

  1. Open Settings → Sleep tracking → Jet lag prevention.
  2. Enable Jet lag prevention.
  3. Select your Target Time Zone.

💡 Preparation Formula: Allow 1 day of treatment for every 1 hour of time zone difference. Example: Traveling to a destination 4 hours ahead? Enable the feature 4 days before departure.

Supported Light Sources#

The app will deliver light flashes using your choice of hardware:

  • Phone Camera LED: Flashes directly from your phone’s built-in light.
  • Smartlights / SleepPhaser: Uses connected smart lamps to illuminate the room gently.

❓ FAQs & Troubleshooting#

Do I keep it on during my entire trip?
