Automatic tracking issues#

1. Why isn’t automatic sleep tracking or estimation available?#

If the “After Fall Asleep” mode or “Sleep Time Estimation” are missing:

  • Hardware: Both require phone hardware capable of background activity detection and a sensor batching queue of at least 500 events. If your device lacks this, the settings won’t appear.
  • Permissions: Ensure Motion & Fitness (Activity Recognition) permissions are granted. Ensure background battery optimizations are disabled. Visit DontKillMyApp.com.

2. Why isn’t automatic sleep tracking starting?#

  • Background Restrictions: Ensure your phone isn’t killing the app.
  • Permissions: Confirm Physical Activity permissions are granted.
  • Charging: If using Sonar, the phone must be plugged in for automatic start to trigger (by default). Check your preference in Settings ➔ Sleep tracking ➔ Automatic sleep tracking.

3. Why did tracking start by itself when I wasn’t sleeping?#

  • Wearable Triggers: Check if a smartwatch accidentally sent a “start tracking” command.
  • Manual Mode: If you prefer full manual control, set mode to Manual Only.
  • Report a Bug: If it repeatedly starts incorrectly, use Left ☰ Menu ➔ Support ➔ Report a bug.

4. Does automatic tracking drain a lot of battery?#

No. Background activity monitoring uses low-power sensors and consumes very little battery. The app only switches to full tracking once it confirms you are asleep.
