CAPTCHA – Sleep as Android’s popular feature which ensures the alarm gets you out of bed – just got really hard to cheat!
The only solution left may well be…
We took inspiration from our digital wellbeing app Digital Detox Challenge. It seals your phone in a strongbox-like software layer to let you use only pre-selected productivity apps.
Sleep as Android now uses the same approach for a feature we call Captcha Cheating Protection.
When the alarm starts, doing anything else than completing your morning CAPTCHA task will result in a kind of a “lock screen”.
NOTE: If you had CAPTCHA protections already enabled before this update, you need to grant Sleep as Android a new permission. To use the new “lock screen”, please visit Settings > CAPTCHA > CAPTCHA Cheating Protection and grant permission to “draw over other apps”.
If you happen to be one of the master-minds who can still work around this protection, we have you covered.
Just set up a Motivation wager – a small fee (~$2 depending your country). This wager is refundable any time unless we find out that your last CAPTCHA routine was somehow “avoided”. In this case, your wager (a standard Play Store in-app purchase) is consumed and used to finance our sleep research project to better understand human sleep.
This feature is currently in a staged rollout so not everyone has it, but if you want to try it now, please join our BETA Testers group at

Please let us know what you think about this new feature on our forum.
